Hi my name is Gill and I live in Lowton , close to the Day Care Centre. Until November 2015 I was working in a Bupa care home in Leigh as a senior carer. Previously to that I had been retired for a few years and lived in Sri Lanka but returned to the UK in 2009. After leaving school I trained as a nurse and eventually became a Matron. When I left the NHS my husband and myself opened the first private residential home in Leigh and we were registered for 16 residents. This was our home for 6 years. Since joining Bridgewater Day Care, I have completed several NCFE courses , improving my knowledge to help me with my work. I was thrilled to be nominated for the Dementia Carer Award at The Great British Care Awards in 2018 and so honoured when I won the Dignity in Care Award at The Great British Care Awards North West 2019 . We are faced with different challenges every day, but I feel our job is so rewarding and we can see the difference we make to both our clients and family’s lives.
