Hi my name is Gill and I live in Lowton close to the day centre. Until November 2015 I was working in a Bupa care home in Leigh as a senior carer. Previous to that I had been retired for a few years and lived in Sri Lanka but returned in 2009. After leaving school I trained as a nurse and eventually became a Matron. When I left the NHS my husband and myself opened the first private residential home in Leigh and we were registered for 16 residents. This was our home for 6 years. Since joining Bridgewater, I have completed several NCFE courses improving my knowledge to better my work. I was thrilled to be nominated as Dementia Carer at the national Care Awards in 2018 and felt very honoured. We are faced with different challenges every day, but feel our job is so rewarding and we can see the difference we make to both our clients and family’s lives.
